While I was searching for a scene that was open to photography, I was approached by this pleasurable Indegineous man who had offered me to
take photographs of the land he owned. As he drove me to this vast scenery, I was struck with the many fascinating components that my
inner-photographer mind, heart, and soul admired.
As the sun rose and its golden rays shined on the rocks’ mittens’, this enhanced the rocks shape and size, making them appear larger and more prominently. The West and East Mitten Buttes that were rising above the ground were brought to life because of the sun’s ability to stretch out its light to the ends of the Earth. Not only was it the sun, but also the clouds’ warm colors that held this photograph together as it continued the landscape’s theme of a large-scale, intimate, and warm atmosphere.
The sound of rocks rustling as I drove on the North Pacific Ocean road slowed as I approached a sign that said “Sonic View” This caught my attention and as I followed where the sign pointed, it felt as if I entered a dream. Everything felt unimaginable and surreal. The warm yellows and sound of waves crashing made me feel a peace I had never experienced before. The clouds, full and soft, took over and appeared as if Heaven was coming down onto Earth. The world was still moving, but my world felt still.
Nature has a way of revealing its gentle yet immesarble presence. With these rocks ranging over 50ft high, its overwhelming height still gave me a sense of peace and security. The many different layers within the rocks were brightened and intensified through the sun’s light, showing the crisp lines running all throughout the canyon. While I was paused, looking up at these massive rocks, I saw the shape of a woman’s face and neck be formed through the rocks. It made me imagine as if this was mother nature physically showing herself through the rocks through an illustration of a woman’s face looking up, stretching forwards. The Indians call this rock “The Lady in the Wind.”
I was alone in the cold and dark night with no moonlight to accompany me. I had known of this destination before and wanted to explore it. As the light came up and above the ocean’s horizon, I felt like a long-awaited gift was given to me. I found my way near a lighthouse where there were hundreds of thousands of rocks and the bay that was still and silent. The view was stretched out and I could see miles worth of land all around me because of the clear sky. Considering this peaceful moment makes us realize how this lighthouse has saved many people from blizzards and raging storms.
